This is Emily’s Story:
As an elementary school music teacher, I have to deal with a LOT of supplies. Paper, pencils, erasers, clipboards, white boards, markers, manipulatives… the list goes on and on. I’m lucky to have plenty of shelving in my classroom but much of it is inaccessible to students. Last year, as I reached up to grab the millionth replacement eraser, I found myself wishing I had a better system for students to manage their own needs. I was so excited to start this year off with a new materials cart from Whitmor (or as we are calling it, “THE TOWER”)! I’ve already begun implementing it in my classroom and it’s so much easier. Need an extra clipboard? Check the tower! We’ve run out of tissues? Check the tower! The easy-slide drawers are great because you can pull them out completely and use them as tubs for student projects or centers. They are long enough to fit a piece of notebook paper and the larger drawers are deep enough to hold a box of tissues (or 3).
Another great addition was the collapsible storage bench. It serves as an aesthetically pleasing seating option with major storage possibilities. I love finding things that make my classroom feel like home and I can see this item working great as flexible seating in a traditional classroom. I’m excited to use it as a book nook, where early finishers can cozy up with a good book!
I’ve also made use of Whitmor’s drawer organizers to separate manipulatives. You can see the before and after photos to tell what a difference it made. I love how the different sizes make it possible to organize all my odds and ends.
Teachers know that an organized classroom is a happy classroom. I have already seen my students reap the benefits of these awesome additions. Now I can’t stop thinking about what to organize next!
